The apprenticeship in Cleaning Support Services and Facilities Services supported by Apprenticeship funding is a gateway to achieving these goals and gives both the knowledge and practical skills required by the industry today.

The apprenticeship structure is unique to the cleaning industry, employee and the employer ensuring all gain the maximum value from the investment.

What level is the Cleaning Support Services and Facilities Services Apprenticeship?

Dependent on your job role the Apprenticeship is delivered at the appropriate level: –

Level 2 – Intermediate level
Level 3 – Advanced level

Within these levels there are five components: –

Competency Certificate at level 2 or 3 – Operational capability and related skills
Technical Certificate – accredited knowledge and understanding
English and Maths at level 1 or 2
Employment rights and responsibilities (ERR)
Personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS) – there are six mandatory elements of PLTS:

Self-Management
Effective Participation

How is the Apprenticeship achieved?

Each Apprenticeship is designed in partnership with the employer, employee and Environmental Excellence to achieve accredited national standards.

Each component will be achieved through your everyday activities at work supported by your unique training that could include: –

Workshops
Theory based classroom events
Practical sessions
Work based projects
Curriculum Enrichment including Industry visits and guest speakers from trade associations providing stimulating motivational activities
Work shadowing of peers
Attendance at Industry related exhibitions
Invitations to industry award dinners will feature as appropriate
Phone app to track record and monitor progress
Additional job related short course options will be offered

Funding your Apprenticeship

The Apprenticeship can only be achieved at work. The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) may support Apprenticeship costs dependent on your age.

Alongside Apprenticeship funding other support could include: –

The Apprenticeship Levy
Help from your employer paying part or all of your cost
You may be eligible for a Government Learner Loan from the Student Loan Company.
You may pay monthly direct to Environmental Excellence
We will explore other avenues of funding to ensure you get maximum support while you plan to achieve your Apprenticeship.

What is The Apprenticeship Levy?

In April 2017 the Government introduced the Apprenticeship Levy. The Levy will raise up to £2.8bn per year which will be used to pay for training in companies across the UK.

Alongside the Levy, the way in which Apprenticeship standards are designed and used by employers is changing. The aim is to make Apprenticeships simpler and more relevant to the skills needed by businesses.

Apprenticeships are a great way of getting qualifications, work experience and a career. You also get paid to learn on the job!

Apprenticeships are the ideal way to develop knowledge and skills within the workplace while undertaking a programme of study. Apprentices spend most of the week working and the rest of the week learning.  To be an apprentice, you need an employer. Are working hours and conditions the same as others at work?

An apprentice is an employee. This means that you have exactly the same employee rights as anyone else employed by the company and that your employer cannot exploit you.

Although you will still be in training during your time on an apprenticeship, you will receive a regular wage and still be entitled to holidays.

As an apprentice, you earn while you learn, gaining practical and transferable skills while keeping your options open. You will be employed and:

Earn a salary each month
Be entitled to annual leave
Vocational training on and off site
Work experience
Employers reference on completion

If you are aged 16 to 18 years and this is your first job rest assured you will do real work for a real employer, earning real money at the same time as acquiring your qualifications.

What is the National Minimum Wage for an apprentice?

From April 1st 2018 (current)

21 and over: £7.38 rate per hour

18 to 20: £5.90 rate per hour

Under 18: £4.20 rate per hour

Apprentice (all apprentices under age 19 AND any apprentice, regardless of age, in first year of apprenticeship): £3.70 rate per hour
